Sam Cibrone started Club Tampa Volleyball in 1997, which later merged with Sandspurs, and then became TUVA. He has led teams to JOs and coached various age groups. He was named St. Leo Head Coach in 2004. His honors include Sunshine State Conference championship, 2 Time SSC Coach of the Year honor, 7 NCAA Tournament regional championship appearances and countless All-Conference, All-Region and All-America honors en route to becoming the winningest coach in Saint Leo Volleyball history. Prior to St. Leo, he led PHCC to 4 straight national appearances. While there, he was named District and Conference Coach of the Year ALL 4 seasons. Prior to PHCC, he led Sickles HS to its first ever volleyball season. Sam is married to Jennifer and has two beautiful future volleyballers, Noah and Ella.
In 1997, Gary Larkin started Sandspurs, which later incorporated various local clubs before merging with Club Tampa to become TUVA. As a club coach, he earned bids to Junior Nationals in multiple age groups when there weren't so many divisions, and he was named USAV Outstanding Coach of the Year. He was named HCC Head Coach in 2003 and is still serving in that position today. He has helped HCC earn 3 FCSAA State Championships, 8 District Championships, 8 bids to the NJCAA Championships, and 6 Suncoast Conference Championship. At the NJCAA Nationals, HCC finished 3rd in 2013 and 2015. Most recently, HCC finished 6th in 2019. HCC has made the post season 13 of 17 years. He has been named AVCA Two Year College Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year 4x, FCSAA State Coach of the Year 3x, District Coach of the Year 8x, and Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year 6x. Larkin has coached 7 All-Americans. He is married to Lisa and has two beautiful children, Aidan and Reina.
Ramos has spent a decade with TUVA. He was recently a St. Leo and FAU Assistant Coach. He served a college recruiting coordinator as well as an offensive and defensive coordinator. He is a senior coach at TUVA and leads at least one of our top teams every year. In the last, he has also served as a volunteer assistant at USF and Camp Coordinator at various institutions including Penn State. As a player, Ramos had been involved in the Puerto Rican club system since the age of 10 and won a national title with AVOLI before moving on to play at Ball State University. .
Monica Medvid has served as the HCC Volleyball Assistant Coach since 2004, where she has helped the HCC Volleyball Program rise to national prominence including two 3rd place finishes at the NJCAA National Championships. She was named 2-Year National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009 and again in 2015. Monica is an HCC Volleyball alumnus and was named Team Captain her sophomore year. In addition, she has been a head coach at both Sandspurs Volleyball Club and Tampa United Volleyball Academy since 2003. She has earned multiple bids to JOs and is one of TUVA’s lead lessons instructors. She is married to Luke Ewalt, and in her spare time, she freelances in photography and wedding planning.
Leanna returns home after a successful stint coaching Queens College in Queens, NY. Leanna grew up in Tampa and played college volleyball at both Georgia Tech and U.Tampa. She has rebuilt a college program and won high school state championships. She is currently the Tampa Prep High School Head Coach.
Danielle played at Land O’ Lakes High School before attending HCC on scholarship and later FAU. Danielle has also played for the Florida Wave women’s team. She was an Assistant Coach at HCC and attended the NJCAA National Championships as both a player and a coach. Danielle has coached numerous years at TUVA over the years. Recently,
Brian had coached for TUVA for several years in the past and will return in 2016. He is currently the Assistant Coach at Pasco Hernando State College, a program that boasts numerous district championships and a national championship. He has taught elementary physical education for the past 15 years. He has coached at River Ridge High School and Land O’ Lakes High School as well as North Bay, Sandspurs, PHVC, and Komodo. In college, Brian traveled with the Penn State Men’s Club Volleyball team. He enjoys family time with his beautiful wife and three children.
Coach Morgan's passion for the game of volleyball made her a fierce competitor as well as a thoughtful coach. She played her high school and club ball in Orlando. She then attended The University of South Florida. Morgan has coached for Tampa United for 4 years, and she is also the Head Coach at Tampa Catholic High School. Her love for the game is demonstrated by the positive environment, which she creates for her teams.
Claudia played her high school ball in the Fort Myers area. She accepted a scholarship to HCC and earned a captainship and all-conference. After 2 years, she joined the USF Bulls and became the starting libero her senior year. Claudia has coached at TUVA for many years and is currently the Bloomingdale High School Head Coach. Recently, she married her best friend and the love of her life Kevin Puig who serves as her assistant coach.
Amy is a born and raised Tampa girl, playing her entire club volleyball career with Sandspurs, which eventually became Tampa United. While in high school at Plant, Amy was a 4-year varsity letter winner and two-time FHSAA State Champion. She went on to play at The University of Tampa, winning a DII National Championship her senior season. After college, Amy became a teacher and coach for Tampa United and coached high school ball at Plant & Naples High. Amy runs TUVA Fall ball and TAP. She is married to Billy, a football coach at the IMG Academy and is the proud mom of Brady.
Jenna played for HCC, leading the Hawks to the 2012 NJCAA National Championships. She then played for Valdosta State, leading the Blazers to a NCAA post-season berth. Jenna is originally from Pinellas County and has just accepted a full-time position to teach and coach at Sunlake High School. She has been coaching and mentoring players as a club coach and summer camp staff member since 2012.
Nicole is the current Head Coach at Durant High School. In her first year, she led the Cougars to the post-season. She had spent 3 seasons as an assistant coach for TUVA before being named a head coach. Nicole is a local girl and TUVA alum who earned scholarships at HCC and then Valdosta State University.
Tony has coached volleyball at the junior level for 20+ years with various different clubs. He coaches at Manatee High School and has been there the last 4 years. He also has been a part of the Florida Regions High Performance program for the past 7 years. Tony has played both indoor and played pro beach volleyball in the Florida Region for the past 20+ years. He has competed at adult nationals every year and has officiated Division I and II for the past 12 years. He currently holds a National level of officiating. He is married to Nancy and they have 3 boys.
Shannon played middle blocker for Tampa United and then went on to play at University of Montevallo. While there, she began coaching at Alabama Juniors. Upon returning to Tampa, she first coached at Thunder Bay before reconnecting with Tampa United. She is currently a TUVA mini-club coach, and we are excited to welcome her home. Shannon is also pursuing an elementary education degree at USF and excited to become a teacher.
Chris has extensive college experience serving Nova Southeastern, St. Leo, and Chowan University. He coached club teams for Florida Suns in Ft. Lauderdale. Chris played collegiately for Warner Southern University, and he also works with the SSOVA Beach tour and playing on the sand. We are excited to add Chris to our cadre of coaches.
Larra comes from Fort Myers where she was named the female athlete of the year in high school. She then played for HCC and Coach Larkin where she earned a trip to the NJCAA National Championships and became a captain and starting libero. After HCC she earned a scholarship to University at Buffalo where she also became a captain and starting libero. At University at Buffalo, Larra played for Penn State great, Blair Brown Lipsitz.
Jamee was a TUVA alumna before playing for St. Leo and Cibrone. She became the starting libero and captain while at Leo helping her teams earn post-season bids. She also competed for Leo for a 5th year on the sand team.
Briana grew up in the Orlando area before playing for HCC. At HCC, she led the Hawks to a 3rd place finish at the 2015 NJCAA national Championships. She currently plays for the USF Bulls.
Cindy has coached volleyball in the Tampa bay area for 15 years. She even coached with Sandspurs, the predecessor of TUVA. Cindy was an All-American setter at Clearwater Christian College where she won two NCCAA National Championships.
