Over 20 years ago, Gary Larkin started Sandspurs Volleyball, which later incorporated various local clubs before merging with Club Tampa to become TUVA. As a club coach, he has earned bids to Junior Nationals in multiple age groups, and he was named USAV Outstanding Coach of the Year. In 2003, he was named the Head Coach at Hillsborough Community College and an English Professor. He holds a BA in English Literature from Boston College, where he played NCAA DI lacrosse, and an MA in creative writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 2019, The Lady Hawks earned a bid to the FCSAA State Championships, making the post-season for the 14th time in 18 seasons. HCC has earned 3 FCSAA State Championships, 8 Gulf District Championships, 8 bids to the NJCAA Championships, and 6 Suncoast Conference Championships. At the NJCAA National Championships, HCC finished 3rd in 2013 and 2015, 7th in 2009 and 2012, 8th in 2008, and 11th in 2006 and 2007. The Lady Hawks posted 20-win seasons ten times and 30-win seasons six times. Larkin's record is 448-210. He has been named AVCA Two Year College Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year four times, FCSAA State Coach of the Year three times, District H Coach of the Year eight times, Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year six times, and USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Outstanding Coach. Larkin has coached 7 All-Americans.
Outside of volleyball Coach Larkin is a big Tampa Bay Lightning fan, enjoys fishing the bay and making his family visit educational places while on vacation. He is married to Lisa, and they have two beautiful children, Aidan and Reina.
Sam Cibrone started Club Tampa Volleyball in 1997, which later merged with Sandspurs, and then became TUVA. He has led teams to JOs in various age groups. He was named St. Leo Head Coach in 2004. His honors include Sunshine State Conference championship, 2 Time SSC Coach of the Year honor, 7 NCAA Tournament regional championship appearances and countless All-Conference, All-Region and All-America honors en route to becoming the winningest coach in Saint Leo Volleyball history. Prior to St. Leo, he led PHCC to 4 straight national appearances. While there, he was named District and Conference Coach of the Year ALL 4 seasons. Prior to PHCC, he led Sickles HS in its first ever volleyball season. He also remains active coaching and playing beach volleyball. Sam is married to Jennifer and has two beautiful future volleyballers, Noah and Ella.
Coach Monica has been with TUVA since 2003 and has led her teams to multiple bids at the Junior National Championships and has become known as one of the top private-lessons instructors in the Tampa Bay area. She also serves as the uniform coordinator.
She has been on the HCC Volleyball staff since 2004 and was named Associate Head coach in August of 2010. While at HCC, Monica has been selected twice as the AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year, first in 2009 and again in 2015. She has helped guide the Hawks to 7 National Championship appearances, 5 Conference Championships and has trained multiple NJCAA All-Americans. Her dedication and commitment to her players has allowed her to help numerous student-athletes gain athletic scholarships to a wide variety of colleges across the country, including NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA institutions. As a player and HCC Volleyball alumni, she earned the honor of team captain her sophomore year.
Monica works with Pura Vida Volleyball Inc., a volleyball apparel company that designs and produces volleyball specific attire for youth and adults. She also has her own business, Imagine Your Design that specializes in yard celebrations. Monica and her husband Luke were married in January of 2016 and have a son, Nico. They reside in Tampa, Florida, where she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Coach Chris played for Warner Southern University and also works with the SSOVA beach tour. He has extensive college experience serving Nova Southeastern, St. Leo, and Chowan University. He previously coached in Ft. Lauderdale with the Florida Suns before joining the TUVA crew in 2019. Chris brings high energy to the gym and is one of our lead lessons clinicians. He believes that preparation is key and by preparing his team for situations that are unfamiliar, they will be one step ahead. When Chris isn't in the gym, you can find him playing disc golf or bowling.
Coach Danielle is a former HCC player and Florida Atlantic University Alumna. She has a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a Master's in Sport Management. She played for the Florida Wave Women’s Semi-professional team. She has coached at St. Leo, assisting the indoor and beach teams. She is currently an Assistant Coach at HCC where she helped earn bids to the NJCAA National Championships as both a player and a coach. Danielle has been with TUVA for many years coaching and mentoring players for mini club, club, and summer camps. Her goal every year is to make sure her players leave loving volleyball even more. She focuses on being crafty at the sport to add a new side of fun. Danielle works in accounting and recently started her own business. When she isn't coaching you can find her snuggling her pups!
Jamee was a TUVA alumna before playing for St. Leo and Coach Cibrone. She became the starting libero and Captain while at Leo, helping her teams earn post-season bids and being named an All-American Honorable Mention. She also competed for Leo on the sand during her 5th year. Jamee approaches coaching based on her own passion for the game. Her goal is to instill that same passion in her players through training and hopes they carry with them a life long love of volleyball! During the day she is a tax accountant and has just been named the Varsity Head Coach at Strawberry Crest High School. Off the court, she is a dedicated dog mommy to her two pups, plays sand, and loves boating, hunting and fishing with her husband.
Coach Antía comes to us from La Coruña, Spain where she played for the National team. She played for HCC where she helped her team win the 2013 State Championship and was named to the All-Tournament team. Antía then transferred to Valdosta State. She has her own business recruiting service for international athletes and is working on a business model for US athletes.. Her coaching philosophy is "if you really want something you will find a way, if not you will find excuses." When she isn't coaching Antía enjoys going to the beach and exploring new places with her boyfriend and friends.
Kaity is originally from Indiana and came to Florida to play for Southeastern University where she was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. She then transferred to FGCU to play for their beach team and continues to play semi pro/pro beach. Kaity is finishing up her Marketing Degree and wants to pursue a career in biochemical or orthopedic sales. She has started her own training academy to grow beach volleyball and works with adults and juniors. As a coach, Kaity loves to make her players smile and builds strong relationships with them individually and as a team. She believes it is important to teach players respect, discipline, and gratitude not only for the game, but for present and future coaches. Passionate for all things sport, you can find Kaity dominating softball, kickball, darts, and corn hole leagues around town!
Coach Shannon is a TUVA alumna and then went on to play at University of Montevallo. She began her club coaching career at Alabama Juniors. After returning home to Tampa, Shannon found her way back to TUVA and enjoys coaching mini club and working with our younger players. She is passionate about fostering an inclusive and encouraging team environment where players can thrive on and off the court. Shannon is the owner of her incredible baking business, Shannon's Sweets and Treats. When she isn't coaching she enjoys baking delicious treats and soaking up the Florida sun with her husband and adorable baby girl, Aria.
Coach Larra is from Fort Myers, FL where she was named the Female Athlete of the Year her senior year. She played for HCC as the starting Libero and Captain while helping her team earn a trip to the NJCAA National Championships. Larra earned a scholarship to University at Buffalo where she was also Captain and starting Libero and played for Penn State great, Blair Brown Lipsitz. As a coach, Larra loves teaching serving and serve receive. She believes in "no hesitation and high energy." When Larra isn't playing or coaching, you can find her working with plants at Yura Vine Brothers. Houseplants are one if her biggest interests. She loves to grow them, collect them, and style them inside her home! She always looks for the hidden beauty in life, and that is a beautiful thing!
Coach Mada comes to us all the way from Talsi, Latvia. She played for HCC before transferring to Southeast Missouri State University where she earned her degree in Exercise Science. Mada is a Certified Personal Trainer and will be the Assistant Coach at HCC this Fall. Her goal as a coach is to emphasize teamwork and players lifting each other up to be stronger as a unit. Her favorite skills to teach are attacking and blocking. In her free time she enjoys playing beach volleyball, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Jenna is local to Seminole, FL and played for HCC, leading the Hawks to the 2012 NJCAA National Championships and being named an All-American. She then played for Valdosta State, leading the Blazers to their first Gulf South Conference Championship in school history and a NCAA post-season berth. She has a Bachelor's in Communications and a Master's in Athletic Administration from UNF. Jenna has been a club coach and summer camp staff member at TUVA since 2012 and is the the Social Media Manager for all things TUVA. As a coach, she makes a point to mentor and prepare her players for bigger moments in life, not just what happens on the court. She married St. Leo alumni Bryan in 2018 and they have two little girls, Mila and Soleil. In her free time she enjoys going to the beach, organizing and traveling.
